Salomon Wieden & Berg Gruner Veltliner 2016 (Austria). Gruner Veltliner is the coolest sounding grape variety in the world. The wine that Austin Powers would drink if he was alive today.
Gru Vee is Gruner Veltliner from Austria and if you have not heard of this wine, then you need to grab a six pack and get on trend
This is the grape variety Austria has made its own and it is a favourite of Sommeliers and retailers alike as we try to get people to stop drinking Sauvignon Blanc
Gru Vee’s generally produce dry refreshing, tangy wines with a certain white pepper and lime characters, which are spicy and incredibly engaging. They are normally fermented in Stainless steel and they are fantastic wines with Asian dishes and spicy seafood.
Salomon is an estate with a very long tradition, founded in 1792 and they own 20 hectares planted on the best terraced sites along the Danube River in Stein and Krems.
This is single vineyard wine and a great example of the Region and style.
You can find cheaper examples of Gru Vee, but these will be from over cropped vineyards producing thin weedy wines. If you want the real Gru Vee experience, spend a little more money and get on the bandwagon
