Ministry of Clouds Shiraz 2017. Aussie Shiraz is different now. Gone are the lashings of new American Oak, huge alcohol and huge tannins. Replaced by elegance, flavour, drinkability and freshness. This wine is a great example of the modern Shiraz from one of the top regions in our country. Ministry of Clouds Shiraz 2016
Totally Opaque in colour, with intense aromas of black floral fruits that leap out of the glass. The palate shows a sense of elegance for McLaren Vale Shiraz, yet is still juicy, dishing up flavours of dark plums, liquorice and ripe blueberries with a hint of traditional regional chocolate.
Ministry of Clouds Shiraz is different, in a very good way. Wineries are normally created by youngish winemakers wanting to stamp their own identity on the grapes, or by wealthy couples looking for their own tree or grape change. Ministry of Clouds Shiraz is neither. Rather it is a husband and wife team with a wealth of experience in corporate wine sales and marketing. They reached the height of large corporate wineries, only to leave this stability and predictability to create their own winery. Based in McLaren Vale, they also source fruit from as far away as Tasmania and the Clare Valley, always working with the best winemakers of the region. Formed in 2012, they have become the darling of sommeliers and wine critics alike.
