Three generations of the Pooley family have now been involved at the winery, which was established in 1985 in the Coal River of Tasmania. With a total planting of only 10 hectares, they have consistently been ranked as one of the top producers of Pinot Noir in Tasmania and the country.
Pooley are a small, family owned winery outside of Hobart that craft gorgeous Rieslings, Pinot Gris and Pinot Noir. The estate Pinot Noir is a consistent performer and always terrific value for money. It is a medium-bodied and silken number with a pretty perfume redolent of ripe red fruits, clove spice and freshly turned earth. It’s good to go now, but given another three to five years will develop those intoxicating forest floor aromas for which Pinot Noir is so highly prized. Duck leg confit, anyone?
