Henty, Victoria
The Crawford River Estate was established in 1874 as a sheep and cattle station and still remains in family hands. The vineyard, which was planted in 1975, covers 11.5 hectares and is on the alluvial edge of a volcanic lava flow. They are in a remote part of South-West Victoria, 50kms from the Great Southern Ocean, in a region called Henty. The estate and reserve bottling of their Rieslings are proven performers in the cellar and will richly reward those patient enough to put them away. The Young Vines cuvee is a slightly softer and more floral than its big brother but still with a fresh citrus tang and terrific persistence.
