Not sure why we need overseas organisations to tell us stuff that we already know. But this week, the UK based magazine- The World of Fine Wine – released their top wine lists of the world, and Australian Restaurants did bloody well. (249 Aussie restaurants picked up awards, second only to the United States with 312).
I am not at all surprised by this, for just as our restaurants offer world class food, the wine lists are also pretty smart.
Obviously there is a strong Australian focus on most wines lists, but over the past 5 years, the international section has really become top notch. The diner now has the opportunity to try some sensational regional wines, be they from the Hunter Valley, Rioja, or the Cote du Rhone.
A special shout out must go to the Sommeliers we work with. Matthew Dunne (Aria / Chiswick) and Adrian Filuta (Felix), who were 2 of the 40 Australian restaurants awarded the top 3 Stars, whilst Dan Sharp of Six Penny was awarded 2 stars. Well done guys.
This reminds me of my favourite past time, sitting in a restaurant and being handed the menu and then the wine list. Unlike a lot of people, I choose the wine first and then look to match it with the food. Always a great time!
Why not make a booking at one of these great restaurants
