Say No to NZ Sauv Blanc this Australia Day

Now I love NZ, infact I have family over there, but enough is enough

Not only do the always beat us in Rugby, and sometimes in the League, they also have the biggest selling wine in Australia

The Ubiquitous Marlborough Sauv Blanc

I have been trying to stop this absurdity for a while, but it is not working.

Even when I tell people that the wine has a distinct “BO” character they still drink it by the dozen

I am not kidding, stick your nose in a glass, and I challenge you not to smell male sweat!!!

But on this Australia Day weekend, we must all strive to drink only Aussie wines

And we really are spoilt for choice in this country

If you love Sauvignon Blanc, why not try some from this side of the ditch. You need to look at a cool climate, so think Orange in NSW and Adelaide Hills.

Also there are the Sauv Blanc Semillon blends from Margaret River which are a damn sight better than your run of the mill Marlborough

Then of course there is great Riesling. Try to look for something from 2013. A great vintage and I think this variety really benefits from a little bit of time in the bottle

You also need to get your head around the new Aussie Chardonnay’s. Cool climate, lean and crisp. Think Victoria (Mornington Peninsula/ Yarra valley) and Tasmania (Which seems to be on a roll of late)

Then of course you have the favourites from the Hunter and Margaret River

Hell, you should also give Hunter Valley Semillon a go, a seriously underrated white wine.

Then there is Pinot Gris/ Grigio

Hell there are thousands of wines, so put down that bottle of Marlborough Sauv Bland and stand up on Australia Day and drink one of our great wines

And close!!! – But seriously – A sweaty under arm – I kid you not

On a completely random topic and I am not sure if this is scary or fascinating, but the wealthiest 80 people hold the same amount of wealth as the world’s 3.6 billion poorest people- that is almost half!

Wow!   And Gina Rinehart is the only Aussie and No 46

I hope she will be drinking a nice Margaret River Classic White Blend over the weekend
